"And He told them a parable, saying, 'The land of a rich man was very productive. And he began reasoning to himself, saying 'What shall I do, since I have no place to store my crops?' Then he said, 'This is what I will do: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and goods. And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years to come; take your ease, eat, drink and be merry
." (Luke 12:16-19)

The other day Linda and I saw one of those personalized license plates that read "SET4LF". Sometimes I can't decipher the intended cryptic messages, but this one I understood--- "Set for life."

It reminded me of a parable that Jesus once told about a rich farmer who's land was very productive. Like many people (rich, poor and middle class), this man's security and sense of well being was determined by the accumulation of his material processions. He had what he reasoned was a fool-proof business and financial plan. He was on his way to retiring rich and probably planing to name his new chariot "SET4LF".

As often happens when prideful people get too attached and dependant upon material processions rather than God, this fool's fool-proof plan suddenly vaporized; "But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and now who will own what you have prepared? So is the man who stores up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God." (Luke 12:20,21).

Jesus went on in this passage to caution His disciples not to worry about the material things and security in this life; "For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing." He said that it is foolish to worry about such things because there are no promised days; "And which of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life's span?" Our heavenly Father knows what we need and promises to always take care of us; "And do not seek what you will eat and what you will drink, and do not keep worrying. For all these things the nations of the world (unbelievers) seek; but your Father knows that you need these things." (Luke 12: 23,25,29,30).

Here is how to be set for life--- Not just this physical life on earth, but set for eternal life; But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." (Matthew 6:33). If Jesus Christ is your saviour and Lord, you are indeed "SET4LF". Maranatha!
