Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. (Colossians 3:1-2)
You have heard it said, "He is too heavenly minded to be much earthly good." Actually, I believe that there are many Christians, or at least those who claim to be Christians, who are too earthly minded to be much heavenly good. If you are a Christian, you are to set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.
This doesn't mean that you are to walk around with your head in the clouds oblivious to everyone and everything on earth. But it does mean that your attention, your devotion, your affection, your obedience, your worship and your love is to be first toward God; Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. (1 John 2:15)
A mind set on the things that are on earth-- that is in love with the world, will likely make worldly decisions based on the lust of the flesh, and the lusts of the eyes and the boastful pride of life (1 John 2:16). A mind set on the things above-- that is on the things of God, will likely make godly decisions consistent with the will and word of God. And shouldn't that be the desire of those who are truly children of God? ...Whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. (1 Corinthians 10:31)
Christian, be heavenly minded and keep seeking the things above. Maranatha!
