The great lay theologian, Clive Staples (C.S.) Lewis, who authored many classic works including "The Screwtape Letters" wrote: "Indeed, the safest road to hell is the gradual one-- the gentle slope, soft underfoot, without sudden turnings, without milestones, without signposts," ...Your affectionate uncle Screwtape.

The Screwtape Letters is a Christian apologetic novel by C. S. Lewis. It is written in a satirical style and while it is fictional in format, the plot and characters are used to address Christian theological issues, primarily those to do with temptation and resistance to it. First published in February 1942, the story takes the form of a series of letters from a senior Demon Screwtape to his nephew Wormwood, a Junior Tempter. The uncle's mentorship pertains to the nephew's responsibility in securing the damnation of a man known only as "the Patient". 

It is true that the simplest and easiest thing for people to do about the certainty of death and its consequences is to just ignore it, don't think about it and hope for the best. And this is exactly what most do who are on that broad road that the Bible says leads to hell. Until we personally receive a potential life threatening diagnosis, most of us don't often really consider the reality of death and what might follow.

If the Lord tarries, death is, of course, inevitable, and the Bible is clear that every soul, following physical death, will still exist forever. The question is, will you exist forever in heaven or hell? The answer depends upon your true repentance and faith in the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ... or lack of it. Don't be deceived and distracted by those people and things that tempt you to only seek the easy, safe, broad road and temporal pleasures of this world; Rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Maranatha!
