A Boiling Pot to the North

The word of the Lord came to me a second time saying, "What do you see?" and I said, "I see a boiling pot, facing away from the north." Then the Lord said me, "Out of the north the evil will break forth on all the inhabitants of the land. For, behold, I am calling all the families of the kingdoms of the north," declares the Lord; and they will come and they will set each one his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all its walls round about and against all the cities of Judah." (Jeremiah 1:13-15)
The nation of Israel has many enemies including all of the middle-east nations that surround God's chosen people. There are biblical prophecies that warn of an attack in the last days from a powerful northern confederacy. Many, including me, believe that the greatest military threat to Israel in these last days is Russia and its allies.
If you go straight north on a globe from Jerusalem, you will eventually intersect with Moscow; Therefore prophesy, son of man, and say to Gog, 'Thus says the Lord God, "On that day when My people Israel are living securely, will you not know it? You will come from your place out of the remote parts of the north, you and many peoples with you, all riding on horses, a great assembly and a mighty army; and you will come up against My people Israel like a cloud to cover the land. It shall come about in the last days that I will bring you against My land, so that the nations may know Me when I am sanctified through you before their eyes, O Gog." (Ezekiel 38:14-16)
We can't know for sure that "Gog" represents Russia and its allies who will attack Israel in the last days. But many biblical scholars who have studied Ezekiel chapters 38 and 39 and other prophetic portions of scripture present a strong argument that these prophecies will soon be fulfilled by Russia and its allies.
However, Russia or whoever it is who attacks Israel in these last days, will not prevail. God Himself promises to intervene for His people and magnify His sovereign power and glory before their eyes; and I will turn you around, drive you on, take you up from the remotest parts of the north and bring you against the mountains of Israel. I will strike your bow from your left hand and dash down your arrows from your right hand. You will fall on the mountains of Israel, you and all your troops and peoples who are with you; I will give you as food to every kind of predatory bird and beast of the field. You will fall on the open field; for it is I who have spoken," declares the Lord God.
