What Will Be Your Legacy?
By George Stroh
April 16, 2012

For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day: and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing. (2 Timothy 4:6-8)

When a very wealthy businessman died, a reporter asked the deceased man's banker, "How much did he leave?" The banker replied, "He left everything!" When we depart from this life and step into eternity, we do indeed leave everything. And the least important part of what we leave behind or our legacy, is our money.

A much more important part of our legacy are the memories tucked away in the minds of our loved ones. There are always, of course, both good and some not so good memories. But as time passes, these memories tend to blend into a watercolor remembrance of our life. When we die, all those things we did or didn't do, the things we said or didn't say and the people we loved or didn't love become our lasting legacy.
The most important part of our legacy is the clear testimony of our faith in Jesus Christ and the certainty of our eternal life in Him; I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing.

When you die, will those who knew you have any doubt about what you believed about Jesus Christ? While you still can, tell them about your faith in Christ and that you want to see them again in eternity. And tell them how they too can have eternal life through faith alone in the Lord Jesus Christ. This gift to those you love will be your most valued, lasting legacy. Maranatha!
