As He was going out of the temple, one of His disciples said to Him, "Teacher, behold what wonderful stones and what wonderful buildings!" And Jesus said to him, "Do you see those great buildings? Not one stone will be left upon another which will not be torn down." (Mark 13: 1, 2)
This unidentified disciple was admiring the architectural beauty and the substantial construction of the Jewish temple. It was certainly magnificent and seemingly indestructible. But just as Jesus prophesied, about 40 years later in A.D. 70, the Romans killed over a million Jews and completely demolished this Temple.
Maybe there are some similarities today in the United States of America. The so called "Baby Boom" generation have witnessed a progressive deterioration of America's social and cultural values over the past 50 years. It is no coincidence that this deterioration has been paralleled by an increasing rejection of, even a hostility towards, God's word.
In a domino effect, America's changing society, its culture and its laws continue to ignored God's immutable laws and His warnings of certain judgment. The tolerance, acceptance and then cultural normalcy of abortion is just one glaring example of America's blatant rejection of God's laws. Since the landmark Supreme Court ruling known as Roe V. Wade in 1973, over 50 million babies have been slaughtered in their own mother's wombs; You shall not murder. (Exodus 20:13).
Prayer and the Ten Commandments have subsequently been banned from public schools. The vast majority of Americans could care less about God and His word (the Bible). Now the Supreme Court is on the verge of adulterating God's command that marriage is to be exclusively between a man and a woman. If the Lord tarries, it will soon be a civil rights violation in America to in anyway discriminate regarding sexual orientation. But God says that homosexuality is a sin; If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act... (Leviticus 20:13)
I recently heard an analogy of the implosion of a building as a word picture for what could soon happen to a once strong, proud, seemingly invincible America. The red ignition button is pushed, the dynamite explodes, there is a few second delay, and then the building completely collapses in upon itself. It all happens so quickly and the once tall, proud, seemingly indestructible building is no more.
Therefore having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should repent, because He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He has appointed, having furnished proof to all men by raising Him from the Dead. (Acts 17:30, 31) Maranatha!
