Another Day of Rejoicing
By George Stroh
May 5, 2014
This is the day which the Lord has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it. (Psalm 118:24)
Today is the 5th of May or the holiday "Cinco de Mayo". On May 5, 1862, the Mexican army defeated the French army at the battle of Puebia, so of course, its a national USA holiday. Whenever someone would ask my dad how he was today, he would respond, "Every day is a holiday!"
Actually, he was right. For example, in addition to May 1st being the "May Day" holiday, it is also "Mother Goose Day" and "Save the Rhino Day". May 2nd is "International Tuba Day". The 3rd is "Lumpy Rug Day" and the 4th is "National Orange Peel Day. My personal favorite is May 8th, "No Socks Day" (no kidding)!
For Christians, every day is a day of celebration and rejoicing because every day is a day the Lord has made. He not only creates each day, He blesses us each day; And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. (Romans 8:28) No matter your circumstances today, our sovereign God, who so loves you, will abundantly bless you Christian in this day He has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it!
Now, in honor of "Cinco de Mayo", I'm going to eat Mexican food for lunch today and then take a siesta (nap), which is my way of celebrating most every holiday. Maranatha!
