For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels. (Mark 8:38)
Are You Ashamed of Jesus? If you are a Christian, or think you are, you will obviously answer, "Ashamed of Jesus? Of course not!" But now ask yourself some further penetrating questions about your faith in Christ. Do my family and friends and others I associate with regularly, know that I'm a devoted follower of Jesus Christ? Do I often (or ever) tell others my testimony of when and how I trusted Christ as my Lord and Savior? If I were arrested for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict me?
Jesus told His disciples, "If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, he is the one who will save it." (Luke 9:23, 24) Jesus wasn't speaking about just losing your physical life for following Him, although many, including all of the disciples, have been martyred because of their faith in Christ. If you are an unashamed follower of Jesus, you have died to self and your life is all about Him; For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. (Philippians 1:21)
We ought not, and really cannot, judge each other regarding our faith and sincere devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ. Only God can look into the heart and know for sure who really loves Him and who doesn't. But we must honestly examine ourselves; Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you-- unless indeed you fail the test? (2 Corinthians 13:5)
