The Time of Your Life

By George Stroh

June 5, 2013

Come now, you who say. "Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit." Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. (James 4:13, 14)

I was sitting outside this afternoon drinking a soda (those of you who know me know it was a Coke). I dropped an ice cube on the concrete. In the dry 105 degree Arizona sun, it only took a couple of minutes for it to melt and the concrete to dry. It was like it was never there.

I thought about those verses in James where God reminds us that our time on earth also passes quickly; You are just a vapor (cloud) that appears for a little while and then vanishes. way. And just like that melted ice cube, we too will someday vanish away. Unless we are very famous or infamous, even our memory will soon fade away on earth, just like we were never here.

We should make short and long term plans. Planning helps us to be good stewards of whatever time, talents and energy God gives us. But we need to remember that God is the one who controls the future; I know, O Lord, that a man's way is not in himself, Nor is it in a man to direct his steps. (Jeremiah 10:23)

So make plans, but make them all subject to Gods will; Instead, you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that". (James 4:15) Live each day remembering that your time on earth is in God's sovereign hands and that you will soon vanish away, so use the time of your life wisely to His glory. Maranatha!
