Biblical Thinking

"Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. (Romans 12:1-2)
One of the first books I read as a new Christian in 1975 was "The Christian Mind" by Harry Blamires. He wrote "We have prayed and worshipped Christianly. Then we have gone back to politics with the politician, social welfare with the trade unionist, and we have emptied our brains of Christian vocabulary, Christian concepts, in advance, just to make sure that we should get fully in touch... We have trained, even disciplined ourselves, to think secularly about secular things."
What he is saying is that many Christians think biblically with regards to personal and corporate worship and morality, but think secularly about political, social and cultural issues. Unfortunately, Christians who mentally compartmentalize the secular and non-secular aspects of their lives, allow themselves to be conformed to this world and its wrong thinking. The Bible makes no distinction between the secular and non-secular. Christians are to think biblically about everything. Biblical thinking means that every issue and every decision is sifted through the truth of God's Word.
You may be thinking; "But the Bible doesn't address everything, does it?" No it doesn't... For example, you can't learn about mathematics by simply studying the Bible. But the Bible does address all of the major issues of life; "seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence." (2 Peter 1:3) and; "All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work." (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
When we present our bodies as a living and holy sacrifice acceptable to God, that includes our minds. If we serve the living God, we must not let the world conform us to its way of thinking about any issue. We have been blessed with "...the mind of Christ." (1 Corinthians 2:16). So you are to be transformed , by the renewing of your mind. This means that we are to be seeped in the Word of God which causes us to think biblically about everything to His glory, resulting in our righteous sanctification. Maranatha!
