So then each one of us will give an account of himself to God. (Romans 14:12)
Most people don't accept or even like to hear about coming judgment, especially God's coming judgment and eternal hell. But the Bible is very clear that each one of us will give an account of himself (or herself) to God. And that everyone will spend eternity in either heaven or hell.
Actually, the Bible says that there are two coming judgments and that each of us will stand before God to be judged at one or the other of these judgments. Believers, those who have trusted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, will be judged at what is known as God's "Bema Seat" judgment. Those at this judgment have already received forgiveness of all of their sins, are on their way to an eternal heaven and will also receive special eternal rewards based upon their faith and obedience to God; Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done. (Revelation 22:12)
The other coming judgment is known as God's "Great White Throne" judgment. Only unbelievers, those who haven't ever trusted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, will stand before the Lord at this terrifying judgment. Everyone at this judgment, having no forgiveness of sin, will be on their way to an eternal hell or what is also know as "the second death" and "the lake of fire"; And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead which were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds. Then death and Hades were throne into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire.(Revelation 20:12-14)
God's coming judgment is certain. The question is will you be at the judgment reserved for believers on their way to an eternal heaven or will you at the judgment reserved for unbelievers on their way to an eternal hell? Maranatha!
