Carpe Diem

"So don't worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matthew 6:34)
For some inexplicable reason, I decided to take a year of Latin in high school. No one speaks Latin anymore, it is a "dead" language. About all I can remember is how to recite "Twinkle Twinkle, Little Star" in Latin and my teacher, Dr. Ogden. She was a rather stern lady who didn't suffer fools well and for some reason didn't appreciate this fool's humor in her class. Needless to say, I didn't get very good grades in Latin.
"Carpe diem" is the familiar Latin phrase meaning "Seize the day". In other words, make the most of each day, seizing the opportunities, because there are no promised days for any of us. Jesus told His disciples to always focus on today and not to worry at all about tomorrow. Worrying about our tomorrows causes us to miss the opportunities and the blessings today. Solomon reminds us that our time on this earth is very short and that God has numbered our days; Moreover, man does not know his time: like fish caught in a treacherous net and birds trapped in a snare, so the sons of men are ensnared at an evil time when it suddenly falls on them. (Ecclesiastes 9:12)
The Bible tells us how amazing and wonderful heaven will be. We will be in the constant presence and protection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ... No more sorrow, no pain, no death, and I hope, no lasting remorse or regrets. But also, there will be no more opportunities to blindly trust and obey Him-- walking by faith and not by sight. Christian, if you should fall asleep tonight and wake-up in heaven, will you be satisfied about the way you lived your life for Christ today? Carpe diem and Maranatha!
