Light and Darkness

For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved son. (Colossians 1:13)
When Jesus identified Judas as the one who would betray Him, The Apostle John writes that Judas went out immediately; and it was night.
(John 13:30) Judas walked away from Jesus, the Light of the world, into both spiritual and physical darkness.
What Judas did is both surprising and frightening. Surprising because Judas, just like the other disciples, had walked with the Lord for nearly three years. He witnessed the many miracles of Jesus and heard His astounding teaching. And yet, for just thirty pieces of silver, Judas betrayed the Lord Jesus Christ with a kiss; This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. (John 3:19)
It is also frightening because Judas and all those who walk away from God's Light, the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, are destined to suffer in total darkness forever. Have you ever been someplace where it was so dark that you couldn't even see your own hand in front of your face? Those who remain in spiritual darkness in this life will suffer the horrific punishment of both total physical and spiritual darkness in hell for all eternity.
Christians, however, who now walk in the Light of God's truth, will forever dwell in His Light; This is the message that we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. (1 John 1:5-7)
